travel

It is always at the top of my agenda, and a thought of my life without travelling is unthinkable.

Our family loves to travel and to explore new cultures and seldom visited places. There is something fulfilling about sharing your life experiences when travelling with your kids. Even at the planning stage, it is wonderful to see their curiosity and the developing sense of an adventure. That moment when I know we can just be together as a family and to start to make memories is what I live for. Creating more time to talk, to share experience and to play together is really important for me.

Even the misadventures or seemingly minor experiences will become fun – perhaps only later.

South Africa

is a land of amazing spaces, breathtaking nature, beautiful beaches on both the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, and most importantly, a place of exotic game reserves.

This most developed country of the African continent offers countless attractions, even for seasoned travellers, from visiting Stellenbosch with its wine farms and gourmet restaurants to real African experiences such as game drives in the bushveld.

A wide variety of golf courses offers countless opportunities to enjoy a day outdoors, with ocean views and towering mountains to make the experience that much more special.

You also can’t miss the amazing places like Cape Town, the penguin colonies and Cape of Good Hope. And don’t forget about the nearby West Coast or, further afield, KwaZulu Natal with its coastline and reserves, and the amazing Kruger National Park.

The first explorers of South Africa were the Portuguese sailors who reached the shores in 1488. The first colony was subsequently established by Dutch traders. The Anglo-Boer wars erupted between their descendants, the Boers, and English settlers, resulting in the Boers’ defeat. The country eventually gained an independence from Britain in 1910 to become the South African Union. After World Word II, Apartheid was established and lasted until 1994, when Nelson Mandela became president.

South Africa offers a wide range of accommodations, from lovely self-catering options to pretty guesthouses on wine farms, to beautiful city hotels and spectacular game lodges and beach villas with breathtaking views.

There are so many things to experience in this beautiful country, including some of the most amazing game viewing, breathtaking coastline views and mountains reaching up to above 3300m elevation.

Game reserves

South Africa’s game reserves offer a nature’s paradise in Africa, with its own rules and rhythm of the life. One of the most exciting sightings is that of the Big Five – rhinoceros, lion, buffalo, elephant and leopard! The quality of accommodation in the national parks is directly tied to the price level. Adjacent private game reserves offer exclusive lodges with full service and a variety of activities. In most of the parks, you are only allowed to leave your vehicle at designated spots and in the camps. You can view the wildlife from you vehicle and at specially built hideouts. Most animals are active at sunrise, sunset and during the night.

Coastline

The coastline in South Africa is stretching from the sleepy desert area in the west bordering with Namibia in a southward direction to wrap around the tip of Africa and then continues to the lush northeast coast bordering Mozambique. From bare, desert like coastline over seacliffs to a rain forrest like coast with natural lagoons, where the nature clearly has the upper hand.

Where the two oceans meet at the most southern point of the African continent, the endless views are breathtaking in each direction  With a beautiful Indian ocean curve of beaches from the east coast to the stretch of a western coastline with the Atlantic ocean.
